The Lonesome Death of Tiger Stadium

by Bob Timmermann

Construction crews started work on the demolition of Tiger Stadium today.

Pictures of what was done and pictures of the grand stadium's decay can be found on the Detroit Free Press site.

Photo gallery of the stadium's decay.

Retrosheet boxscore of my only trip to Tiger Stadium.

I've been to Tiger Stadium a number of times...second most to Yankee Stadium. I just wish they would have demolished it years ago when they moved to Comerica. Letting it sit derelict, only to be torn down years later in obscurity just seems even more wrong somehow.

I knew it was going to happen, I am a bit surprised that they decided to do it this way, alluded to in 1 .

I managed to make it out there during the last season series against the Royals.

I was hoping they would preserve it, maybe put a minor league team in there, or kept it up well enough that they'd be able to use it for something when Detroit hosted the ASG, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Just as well.

I suppose Mr. Brattain is a bit annoyed.
