The worst day of the baseball season...
2008-07-16 06:00
by Bob Timmermann

Is without a doubt the day after the All-Star Game. There is just nothing going on that interests me. I will spend Wednesday night point the remote control at my TV in vain hoping that some game will come on. But there won't be.

This is what I feel like the day after the All-Star Game:

Don't let the nose-lichen drag you down.

I think they should schedule at least one game the day after the All-Star game, a national telecast on ESPN. What's the point of having a blank day on the schedule?

Have it at Shea or something, so there aren't any travel problems.

AAA All-Star game baby, point your clicker at the right station and you will find baseball.

I disagree that today is the worst day. At least we have baseball to look forward to tomorrow.

The entire month of February is the worst time of the year.

They could move the Futures Game to today.

It's the worst day in the middle of the season.

WNBA
AAA All Star Game

Oh no, I may have to talk to my family or read a book. Maybe they have some books at the library.

Maybe they have some books at the library.

That's a myth.

I wandered into a library a few days ago and was surprised to see that 90% of the patrons were using the computers and the rest were reading magazines.

They were reading the magazines just for the articles.

9 All those pursuits are sedentary. Here's something I hear when I say something like that: "Don't you live near a beach?"

So, then, Dodgers fans, doncha live near a beach?

13 Long Beach is boring. Seal Beach sucks. Huntington Beach sucks more. And Torrance is too far.

6 - now that I think about it, that's about right. February is the month where all the big trades that are going to happen have happened, but you're still in that limbo between the World Series and pitchers and catchers reporting.

14 - Long Beach can't suck. It blows, what with the power plants at the end of the San Gabriel River and all.

14 When I was a kid my family used to vacation at Long Beach and Huntington Beach. It was a real treat during the years we lived near Victorville. (UGH)

I live on the EC now and would love to have a Huntington Beach here. You California people are spoiled.

15 There's always winter ball. The Serie del Caribe winds up shortly before pitchers and catchers report.

The trick on days like this is to think of ever worse times. What I think about is the 2009 WBC in March. I can think of about 10 players currently on the roster that have a potential for playing, and I am not even including the North Americans. This will make the China trip seem like a minor diversion (which I guess it was). I mean I am all for the WBC, but not with my players, please.

I actually enjoy the month of February, as one's dreams are yet to be crushed by cruel reality. Druw, for example, was a major slugger in February.
