The Cubs have recalled a pitcher from Iowa to replace the injured Kerry Wood.

I hate him.

When I read the headline I thought for sure it was Ramon Ortiz...

That was Russ, not Ramon.

If Samardzija pitched for the Dodgers, could you cheer for him?

That was one of the worst games ever. I was rooting (for once) for UCLA, and they were leading the whole game until the last, aching minute.

I have to go see a USC game at Notre Dame. Maybe next year.

Notre Dame is a great place to see a game. The fans are bizarrely nice.

And since you will be rooting for USC, you will not be risking crushing disappointment.

But he's the only one who plays baseball.

I'm just happy that Brady Quinn is the BACKUP to Derek Anderson.

Some explanation is necessary for the hatred. Is it because:

1. He was a decent, over-hyped WR who is now a decent, modestly-hyped SP
2. He played for Notre Dame and the hatred is directed at the Golden Domers.
3. He played well vs. USC
4. He has a funny last name.
5. He personally offended you in some sort of unfortunate interaction
6. He lost you a bet.

Just curious.

Sorry revise #3 to vs. UCLA (hence the picture, duh).

Ain't that the truth. It helps that while Quinn's sister (Mrs. Hawk) is quite fetching, she's no match for Anderson's close friend and former school chum playmate.

In the 2007 draft, I would have declared fan free agency had the Raiders drafted Brady Quinn.

In order, #3 (corrected version), followed by #2 and #1.

4-6 don't matter to me.

Samardzija entered the game in the 7th with a 2-1 lead and allowed a run.

The most recent pitcher to blow a save in his major league debut was Warner Madrigal of the Rangers on July 2nd. Madrigal's line: 1/3 IP, 6 runs.
