Return of the Metro Area battles
2008-09-02 17:46
by Bob Timmermann

For those interested (the two of you can put your hands down), you can track the battles to see who will be top dog in the five Metro Areas that share baseball teams on the sidebar down at the bottom right.

Some of the races are runaways. The Angels lead the Dodgers by 16 games and the Orioles lead the Nats by 10 1/2.

The best races are in New York, where the Mets have a 3 1/2 game lead over the Yankees and in the Bay Area where the Athletics lead the Giants by 4 games. The Giants-Athletics race should keep people on the edge of their seats.

Doing so makes it much easier to leave when you get bored watching Oakland or San Francisco.

The Orioles look like they can win the Baltimore-Washington area battle after trading two of their biggest stars on the team.

More accurately, the Orioles look like they can outperform the Nationals after trading with Bill Bavasi and Ed Wade.
