The Detroit Tigers became the 11th team to be eliminated from postseason contention after an 11-8 to the Texas Rangers in Arlington. It was the Tigers 79th loss of the season. First place Chicago (a 4-2 loser to the Yankees) has 83 wins and second place Minnesota (a 3-1 loser to Cleveland) has 82 wins. The White Sox and Twins still play each other in three games this year, so one of them has to win at least 84 games.

Going into the season Detroit looked like possibly the best team in the majors. They really fell hard.
