Tigers bid a grand slam, White Sox call and raise
2008-09-14 20:19
by Bob Timmermann

Forgive me, if my poker terminology is incorrect.

In the top of the eighth inning at U.S. Cellular Field, Marcus Thames of the Tigers hit a grand slam home run off of Octavio Dotel to tie the game at 7-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, White Sox pinch hitter DeWayne Wise hit a grand slam off of Kyle Farnsworth to give the White Sox an 11-7 lead.

The last time each team had a grand slam in the same inning was on May 13, 2005 when Jeff Francouer Adam LaRoche of the Braves hit one off of Giovanni Carrara  Jeff Weaver of the Dodgers in the eighth inning and Milton Bradley of the Dodgers replied with one off of Chris Reitsma.

I'd say "bet" instead of bid. and I may say "bet a," but that's semantics.

Wild game.

Wasn't it Jeff Weaver that gave up the grand slam?
