Note the WC 2006 in the headline, which will signify that this is a World Cup-related post, so you can skip past it.

Some guy in St. Louis has started a World Cup blog. I don't trust him however.

Some guy's World Cup predictions for each group.

I don't think I've ever heard this sentence before, in any sport or any language: "The Swedes are much better in attack than on defense."

Swedes always sit back, play well-organized, disciplined defense, and then wait for a good opportunity to counter-attack. In soccer, ice hockey, team handball, tennis, you name it. (Stefan Edberg being the only exception I can think of.)

But in this case, I suppose it's true; this Swedish team has more talent on offense. But somehow, I doubt they'd change their style to accomodate their talent.

>Costa Rica is staying at a Holiday Inn.

We're not really professional soccer players. But we did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

Togo was the first team to arrive since FIFA picks up the tab. I think they've been in Germany for nearly a month.

It appears the Timmermann family parents like two-syllable names that have common one-syllable nicknames.

Unless you have a sister named Sesquipedalia that you haven't told us about...

On topic, though, some good stuff (though I think the prediction of the US advancing might be a tad optimistic... Group C might be the toughest group in the tournament, but I think Group E could lay claim to the title as well (3 teams that won their regional qualifiers, IIRC, and probably the #2 team in Africa - yikes).

I have no sisters. But my other brothers are Jim and Michael. The latter likes to use his full name.

My father's given name was Henry. But his family called him Vernon and his friends called him Tim.

Sounds like something out of "Rocky Raccoon".
