WC 2006: USA wins last warmup, we think

by Bob Timmermann

The results of the USA-Angola exhibition were on a "need to know" basis apparently.

The family chimes in on this match.

After barely getting past a 10 man Angola team 1 - nil I wouldn't want anyone to know I was playing either.

I'm waiting for the big Angola-Iran derby match.

It was probably mostly reserves and players of questionable fitness playing for the US.

I would hope that we don't have anyone with "questionable" fitness at this point (with the exception of John O'Brien). If the score is correct, it further demonstrates the US' inability to score...

Well... Reyna was injured recently wasn't he?

Plus, quotes from the Angolans mostly say they carried the second half (after the reserves had gone in?). The point is, we don't know who played where, for how long, or at what intensity or with what training goals. This game likley had a purpose for Arena, and I doubt that purpose was to showcase his starting XI.

Reserves went in and out. It was more like a college game. It's likely just about everybody was out there at one time.

6 - "At one time."

That's probably very true, but the question is how big of a chunk of time it was. I just don't think that using this "result" to judge the US is useful as done in 4. Heck, the Angolans had no idea who was on the field at any given time.

Has Arena even settled on the starting line-up yet? I think he'll try to mix it up as much as he can for most potential scoring and some of these guys might be on the bench. Ching will probably back up McBride, because they're very similar, but Ching's a good scorer, too. Will be interesting to see who the starters are and whether that changes for each match-up.

No offense to "The Family" but I think Tom is on crack. Neither the Dutch nor the Czechs advance from their groups? Nonsense.

Nah, we had an intervention a few years back...
