Here's to the worst

by Bob Timmermann

Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News interviewed scouts who tried to identify players who are the worst at certain skills.

Under "Worst knowledge of strike zone", the "top" three are:

1. Angel Berroa
2. Pedro Feliz
3. The entire Tampa Bay Devil Rays lineup

Kyle Farnsworth ranked 3 in worst control. I've heard it said that he has "a million dollar arm and a ten cent head."

The poor control poll must have been done before the recent Red Sox-Yankees series.

No mention of Russ Ortiz having the 2nd worst fastball?

1 I cry foul on that. Farnsworth walks a lot of guys, but I've seen much worse on the Yankees alone in recent years. I think Farnsworth takes a lot of crap for being built like an action figure and throwing 100 MHP.

Keep in mind that there was a panel of FOUR.

"Under "Worst knowledge of strike zone", the "top" three are..."

And Eliezer Alfonzo breathes a sigh of relief.

Where's Francoeur in the worst strike zone judgement debate?

That's what I wonder. The Devil Rays can't be that bad overall.

They're 25th overall in walks ahead of the Angels, Pirates, Tigers, Mariners, and Cubs.

2 If your going off of that series than you need to include the entire Boston bullpen save Papelbon.

How could Lofton not make the worst outfield arm list?

13 .... and Bernie Williams

But people like Bernie Williams! Johnny Damon stirs up more enmity. And since he plays more, people expect more out of him.

Having seen them both on a daily basis, Bernie and Damon have equally pathetic throwing arms. Torre didn't play Lofton enough during his year with the Yanks, so I can't speak to that as much.

Uh, ignore that, I thought I was on the Bronx Banter game thread. [slinks away sheepishly]
