Thanks to five home runs, two by Michael Bourn, the United States beat Cuba 8-5 in Havana to win the Olympic qualifying tournament. Both the USA and Cuba had clinched spots in the 2008 Beijing games. The game was played before an estimated crowd of 45,000 in Havana.

Well, they do have a much better health care system down there.

Yes, I am 100% serious.

Absolutely. It's been impossible to stop all those people from using inflatable boats to get down to Cuba for the healthcare.

Personally, I go to Dr. Cureitnow's Emporium of Elixirs.

I've heard he does good work.

Personally, I just ignore the malady till it goes away.

Yes if you are in the market for a free open heart surgery there is no better place than Havana. Just schedule it on a day when the electricity is running.

I always knew the Griddle would be the last place where the Cold War would be fought.

Or maybe it's the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Or the Bay of Pigs.

Or the middle of "Godfather, Part II"

Did Cuba use it's best players? Or the players it used in the WBC? vr, Xei

Cuba's star pitcher, Lazo, was the losing pitcher. Why would Cuba not want to use its best players in this situation?

11. I don't know, just wondering. I am assuming our team that beat them is full of minor league prospects that weren't needed as call-ups as opposed to all the all-star squads of professionals that Cuba beat in the WBC. If that's the case, then "job well done". vr, Xei

Cuba's national teams are great, but they aren't as great as they used to be. The other countries take the tournaments more seriously. And Cuba making it to the final of the WBC was likely much more a factor of the Cuban players being in the middle of their regular season as opposed to the other countries who had players still in spring training.

The Cuban team did not exactly overwhelm the opposition in the WBC.
