Does that make Burgos the all time leader in blown saves by pitchers with first names ending in X?

I need to link this to Brian Cashman every day in the 2006 offseason, with the subject line "Why You Shouldn't Waste Money On Barry Zito."

Re: Wild Pitches

Of course part of this is that official scorers are reluctant to award passed balls, despite the fact that many wild pitches could be otherwise blocked by better defensive catchers. Thus, not surprised to see a White Sock (Pyrz'ski) and Angel (Napoli) among the league leaders ...

1 No foolin. I had no idea that Zito was walking that many dudes.

Zito walked seven in a game against the Yankees.

And he won that game. He's had two starts with six walks, both of which he lost.

Seeing Daniel Cabera's name atop more than one of these lists fills me with rage and indignation. I drafted him for my Scoresheet team, thinking I'd gotten a real steal. Instead I got a guy who far out-paced his closest competition in BB, despite spending a month in the minors.

Daniel, you're on my list. Watch out.

Anybody know why Freddie Garcia has given up so many stolen bases this year. Especially since the rest of the AL pitchers aren't even close.

Well, part of it is probably Pierzynski, who has allowed nearly 80% of base-stealers to reach over the last three years.

6 Probably has something to do with the fact that Pierzynski is fourth to last in the league with only 21.9% of basestealers caught. Only Michael Barrett and Victor Martinez have had more runners take off against them. Contreras is 4th in the AL in SB against. In addition, I'm guessing it also has something to do with Garcia's windup or pitch makeup as well, as there are only 2 CS against Garcia all season (a whopping 5% success rate) while 25% of Contreras' would be stealers have been gunned down.

Contreras has given up 19 SBs. Jenks and Vazquez have given up 10.

I suppose another factor for Garcia is that he has been the White Sox starter who allows the most baserunners.

Strange that RJ is on that list though, as Jorge Posada is simply having one of his best season at nailing guys.

Jason Varitek's struggle along with Mirabelle being Mirabelle and Javy Lopez being... well.. Javy Lopez didn't help the Boston pitchers... and Wake will give up SBs by the dozen anyway.
