Japan's Central League pennant race update
2006-09-23 10:10
by Bob Timmermann

Japan's Central League has a 2-team race for its lone playoff spot.

Central League
WLTGBPCT
Dragons75485.610
Tigers745544.574

The Central League season has 146 games this year, so the teams still have a ways to go. The Dragons have a magic number of 12. However, if they finish with a higher winning percentage than the Tigers, but with fewer total wins, the two teams would play a best-of-three playoff.

The Dragons remaining 18 games (9 home, 9 road):
9/24 at Yakult
9/26-28 vs Yokohama
9/29-10/1 at Tigers
10/3-6 vs Hiroshima
10/7-8 at Yokohama
10/9 at Yakult
10/10 at Yomiuri
10/14 vs. Yakult
10/15 vs. Yokohoma
10/16 at Hiroshima
After 10/5 all the games are makeups for earlier postponements

The Tigers remaining 13 games (8 home, 5 road):
9/24 at Yomiuri
9/26-28 vs. Hiroshima
9/29-10/1 vs. Dragons
10/3-5 at Yakult
10/7-8 vs. Yomiuri
10/14 at Hiroshima
