It's a playoff spot!
The Detroit Tigers clinched their first playoff spot since 1987 with an 11-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers have also moved 1/2 game ahead of the Yankees for best record in the American League.

The Tigers need to finish one game ahead of the Yankees to get homefield through the playoffs as the Yankees own the tiebreaker.

Yay! (I like the Tigers, for unexplainable reasons.)

It's because we all feel sorry for Detroit, the most screwed up major-league city in America. The people who have to live there need some good news once in awhile.

Hope there's no rioting.

Nah. I think it's baseball-related. Al Kaline (we need to see a baseball player named A. Cid -- apologies to Roger Angell, who spoke of it first), Norm Cash, Mickey Lolich...those guys appealed to me.

3 Detroit is old-timey baseball, without being insufferable or tired, like the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, and Orioles.

Detroit is a great baseball town. It's nice to see them back after so long.
