The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters supsended pitcher Satoru Kanemura for the rest of the regular season (2 games) and the playoffs for publicly criticizing team manager Trey Hillman. Kanemura could come back for the Japan Series if the Fighters make it that far.
From the Kyodo News Service:
Nippon Ham had been leading the game 4-1 when Hillman gave the
order for Kanemura to leave the mound with two outs and the bases
loaded, and Lotte rallied off reliever Takehiko Oshimoto to tie the
score the same frame before winning the game on Benny Agbayani's
grand slam in the seventh.Upset that he missed out on double-digit wins for the fifth
season in a row, Kanemura said after the game, ''I'll never forgive
him. He is a foreign manager, so he probably doesn't care about
individual stats. I don't even want to see his face.''
The team has an ERA of 3.09 playing in a league with a DH.
Kanemura has an ERA of 4.48. Opponents were batting .300 against him.
Tell me you posted this because Benny Agbayani was involved.
That's frightening.
Yomiuri started out fast and then faded fast. The Giants have been mathematically eliminated for a while in Japan.
