The Boston Red Sox have reached a preliminary agreement with free agent shortstop Julio Lugo for a reported four years and $36 million.

As seen earlier on Dodger Thoughts, J.D. Drew signed a 5 year, $70 million dollar contract with the Red Sox.

My eyes are melting. I realize that teams are playing with Monopoly money this winter, but Jesus, four years of Julio Lugo? Don't get me wrong, it'll be nice to have a real shortstop for the first time since Cabrera skated for Los Angeles, but I wouldn't bet on his being worth a red cent in 2010, let alone nine million bucks. Heck, even I will be 30 in 2010.
