According to the Korea Times, Chan Ho Park has signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the New York Mets.

No word yet from the New York papers.

"Sports analysts said Park . . . was likely to compete for a spot in the rotation."

I think this is an error, if it's true. Park has proven that he's not much of a starter, but if you winnowed down his repetoire to two pitches he could make a very good reliever. At $3 million, I suppose there's some chance that the Mets might let him try that.

Seaver, Koosman, Gentry .... nope .... no one even remotely close to those on the 2007 version.

And still, the Mets are favorites to win the East.

AP is reporting it now too. http://tinyurl.com/2ntjzd

According to that, base is $600,000, with $2.4 million in innings-based performance incentives, so he'd be cheaper in relief.

Park will compete with John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey and Philip Humber for jobs in the Mets rotation behind Tom Glavine and Orlando Hernandez. Pedro Martinez is expected to be sidelined for the first half of the season.
Two old dudes, two rooks, two "who knows what you'll get" - Chan Ho as a starter not that far-fetched? He made 21 starts for SD last year and somehow managed to average nearly 6 1/3 innings per start, although his WHIP was 1.39 and he allowed 20 homers (12 at Petco!).

I really would like to see Oliver Perez get his act together.
