Hampton gets hurt again
2007-03-08 10:56
by Bob Timmermann

Braves pitcher Mike Hampton, trying to come back from reconstructive elbow surgery, now will miss the start of the regular season, after hurting his side and possibly breaking a rib, while taking batting practice.

Hampton hasn't pitched since August 19, 2005.

Let's see. Carl Pavano hasn't pitched in a regular season game since June 27, 2005. If Pavano makes his schedule start at the beginning of the season for the Yankees, Hampton will have to miss something in the area of 50 games at the start of the season to match his time on the shelf.

And Pavano didn't even have any major surgery.

But Mike Hampton used to be good.

Carl Pavano used to be Carl Pavano.

2 That's kinda harsh. Carl Pavano wasn't a bag of peanuts before he started cracking. And Hampton had more time to be Hampton.

I think Hampton has a little more goodwill with the Braves than Pavano does with the Yankees.

However, I doubt Rockies fans have much good to say about Hampton.
