By popular demand (and it only takes about two people), you can have at it here about the USA-Mexico finale from Soldier Field in Chicago.

I am disgusted with the construction of the Copa America side, so we'd better win today.
2007-06-24 12:03:41
2.   Greg Brock
The two teams don't care for each other very much.

Ooh, Landon Donovan looks tough with his stubble.

Wow, Soldier Field is packed (relatively speaking)

It's pretty loud in there. Lot of Mexicans in Chicago, then? Or the continued inability of US fans to come up with good cheers?
2007-06-24 12:15:33
6.   Hallux Valgus
5 Lots of Mexicans. I've been to a few national matches, and I've never seen the Americans have an edge in fans. The fans that do show, however, are fantastic.

El Tri manages to do at leas one Bush League thing on the field every four or five minutes.

I thought Bornstein was a Bradley pick based on familiarity alone. He has proven me wrong repeately. That was a nice strike.
2007-06-24 12:35:18
16.   Greg Brock
Not a big Bradley fan. They've won and all, but not impressively, and this conservative play drives me crazy.

Not getting Klinsmann really chaps my hide. All these athletes we have would attack, attack, attack.

17.   mehmattski
Dive, again.

jeez- Castillo is making the US back line look foolish. I'm very worried. We look slow today.
2007-06-24 12:38:35
19.   Hallux Valgus
16 I agree. I gave him a mulligan based on the interim tag, but now that he's the guy, the team is still playing conservatively.

I'm still waiting on why we didn't get Klinsmann. I haven't heard a good explanation.

Sanchez. Grrr.
2007-06-24 12:47:49

CURSES!

22 I think you're right, but I refuse that we can't pay. Unacceptable.

And Mexico continues to outrun us in their scoring end

2007-06-24 12:49:46
25.   Hallux Valgus
We have had far too many breakdowns from the back line this tournament. The answer is not to drop Bocanegra for Copa America. Onyewu, I can live with.

Where the hell was Donovan on that?
2007-06-24 12:52:25
29.   Greg Brock
This is the kind of listless garbage that exemplified the last years of Arena's tenure. And now we get it with Bradley.

Sigh. I want energy.

2007-06-24 12:53:26
30.   Hallux Valgus
28 I don't think that was on Donovan. Who's starting at right back with Hejduk out? Spector? Whoever it was, he wasn't there.
2007-06-24 12:54:05
31.   mehmattski
"Sigh. I want goals."

Fixed.

2007-06-24 12:54:43

30 You're correct. I had my sides mixed up, Donovan is playing left half now.
2007-06-24 12:57:20
33.   Hallux Valgus
After checking, it is indeed Spector/ Onyewu on the right side. I have never been impressed with Onyewu, and this match is further testament to that. Somewhere, Jimmy Conrad is shaking his head.

And Ching goes post. Near goal.

57 2-1 USA, 75th minute. Ching should have made it 3-1 there but hit the post with the Sanchez on the ground.

They were with Feilhaber. He was sitting at home because of Claudio Reyna.

I am fairly confident I could have made that run and scored there.

Beasley is an amazingly maddening player.

thank god. still- too many breakdowns from the back line.

God DAMN BEASLEY. Finish. We will never be an international power with these finishes.

Big credit to the fans. Filling Soldier Field for soccer is a big deal. Now let's hope we can do something (anything!) in the Copa.

Wow, what a crazy fantastic game. (I just watched it on TiVo.) That was indeed an amazing turnaround in the second half. Mexico, especially in the first half of the first half, were much more energized. Their keeper Sanchez was also amazing. What a great second half by the US, and some good substitutions I thought.

Yeah, Ching missed a chipper but I wouldn't blame him too much - he did what he had to do, made a nice turnaround move, and then chipped it over the keeper like he should have, but it just missed. Beasley, on the other hand, choked, pure and simple - there's no way on God's green astroturf that you should miss a shot like that. No matter, they won.

My Lord, does Mexico flop or what? It's so unnecessary because they have many great players, there's no need to audition for Broadway on some of those. More dives in that game than in a Greg Louganis retrospective. Drives me nuts. When the US and Canada played there were hardly any questionable falls and theatrics.

Btw, maybe this is just me but that announcer for Fox Soccer is really terrible. He's not only a pro-US homer (I guess that's forgivable - trying to get American audiences more involved in it all) but more annoying is how many wrong things he says. The other guy just ignored him half the time. It reminded me of Fred Willard and the British guy in Best in Show for some reason. I don't remember being that annoyed by him before, though.
