Zambrano signs new deal with Cubs *
2007-08-17 08:07
by Bob Timmermann

ESPN Radio in Chicago is reporting that Carlos Zambrano and the Cubs have reached an agreement on a 5-year, $90 million contract.

The Cubs are presently 61-59 and just ½ game behind first place Milwaukee in the NL Central.

It is no longer "reportedly." And it's actually for $91.5 million.

The Cubs should pray Big Z's arm holds up over the long haul, given his usage by age 26.

Here are the pitchers whose careers started within the last 25 years, whose starts comprised at least 80% of the games they appeared in, ranked by innings pitched by age 26 (Z turned 26 this June).

Bob, came upon this in another forum. Does it sound right to you? vr, Xei

Ive heard of this situation but have never seen it actually happen in play.

Lets say the bases are loaded with nobody out. The batter hits what looks like it will land in the gap in Right Center. All runners have gotten a jump off the pitch and have taken off.

However, what they dont realise is that the Center Fielder has come in to make a very nice catch.

The runner from 3rd crosses the plate, not realising that the Fielder has caught the ball. The runner from first is gunned out, and the first baseman throws to the second baseman to get the runner at second out.

3 outs, inning over? Not quite.

Unless the defensive team throws to 3rd base to appeal the run, the run counts. No appeal, no call.

If the defensive team does this, they can still take off the run. This would be considered a "Fourth Out".
thoughts?
