Yet another addition to the Baseball Reference Play Index
2007-08-30 10:29
by Bob Timmermann

Sean Forman at Baseball-Reference.com has added yet another feature to the Play Index. There is now a Postseason Batting Event and Postseason Pitching Event.

So now you can find the seven catcher's interferences in postseason play! Or all six postseason games that ended on a sacrifice fly.

Or which pitcher has given up the most postseason home runs? Is it who you thought it was?

Sac flies I remember

Larry Gardner to Josh Devore
Fred Merkle off of Eddie Plank

That last one is interesting because I believe the A's chose to let the pitcher bat for himself in the ninth inning, but then pinch ran for him once he got a hit.

I didn't realize you were old enough to remember the 1912 World Series.

So which TV station covered it?

Jack Coombs was a very good hitting pitcher. He batted .235 for his career and he was 8 for 24 in World Series play.

I got the pitcher question right! A lot of the cumulative post season records belong to Mr. ____ and his contemporaries because of the additional that exist in the playoffs.

I'll guess Andy Pettitte for that question.

4 "the additional..." - rounds of playoffs.

Me fail English? Possible.
