Day 5 of the ESPN/Viña impasse (UPDATE)
2007-12-17 07:29
by Bob Timmermann

It's Day 5 since the Mitchell Report named Fernando Viña as a user of PEDs and the ESPN commenter has not appeared on ESPN to address the matter.

This leads to several questions:

  1. Do we need to know?
  2. Can ESPN compel testimony from anyone? I have nightmares about Chris Berman coming after me with a subpoena. Or even worse Tony Kornheiser.
  3. Fernando Viña worked for ESPN?

UPDATE - Viña speaks on the matter.

I choose not to look this gift horse in the mouth.

Rather, I want to get the Mitchel Addendum to add John Kruk and Steve Phillips as well.

If what Fernando did was an error in judgement on his part, I'm sure he'll apology.

Worked for Pettitte.

2 Or for that matter, apologize.

Don't know why I bothered correcting myself, no one responds to my banality.

You also spelled "judgment" wrong.

But ex-ESPNer Harold Reynolds HAS spoken about this on mlb.com ...

In other news, Chris Berman denies ever having uttered, "you're with me leather" to Derek Jeter.

Vina's case prove that performance enhancing drugs increase a batter's ability to get hit by a pitch.

Getting served by Tony Kornheiser would be bad. But my personal nightmare is Wilbon throwing a cross-body block at me.

Chris Berman would be an awful process server. You would hear him coming from a mile away. No chance of sneaking up on anyone unless they were deaf. Before he found you he would show up at your home or place of work yelling something obnoxious like, "I have a super-duper sen-sat-ion-al subpoena for Bob the Tim Timmermann from Timbuktu." This would be particularly bad for you because you work in a library (not that that would stop him). Chris Berman needs to retire from sports casting and joint the World Doughnut Tour.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Colin Cowherd bribed someone to keep his name off the list?

Vina was on outside the lines today to talk about the matter. He said he took HGH in 2003, but never took steroids. Said he took HGH to get healthy and get on field. Said he would never take steroids, because he was a speed guy and a bunter not a power hitter.
