Day 1 of the Long March: Poinsettia Bowl open chat
2007-12-20 18:45
by Bob Timmermann

I really don't expect much chatting, but since I have little to write about this time of year, I am going to post a chat thread for all 32 college football bowl games (days with multiple games will get one thread). Why? I do not know. Perhaps because it is there. Once I used to make it a goal to see at least one minute of each bowl game just because I do things like that. But now that some games are on the NFL Network that will never happen. And some days I will actually go out and socialize with people over the holidays.

But for tonight, enjoy Utah (8-4) versus Navy (8-4) in the Poinsettia Bowl at 6 pm PT from San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. It's the first ever meeting between the Utes and the Midshipmen.

Utah has won its last six bowl appearances defeating Fresno State, USC, Southern Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, and Tulsa. Navy's lost last bowl victory was in this game in 2005 against Colorado State.

How was the victory lost? Using ineligible players?

Navy's victory was lost? Where was the last place they saw it?

It was funnier when there weren't any posts.

Should be an easy win for Utah.

Provided I get 3G or edge reception, I will post comments from somewhere in the Plaza level. Hope it doesn't rain...and Bob, thanks for doing the rebuses (not rebii, I checked!) weekly now.

Did there used to be a game show where people would have to solve them for money? Childhood memories are beginning to fade...

There was a Pictionary game show. So, yeah, I guess.

Aye, a daily keelhaul reality show should get the rating back up. We could pull up 5 inmates who have decided freedom is worth the risk of death. After they make their plea, the world votes on who gets to take the chance. If you get keelhauled and live you get your freedom, $100,000, and a chance to appear on the Oprah show after you've healed, assuming you heal. With the proper underwater cameras it should be a big hit with the "hills have eyes and saw crowd".

At the same time we could keelhaul the auditors who make me fill out SOX paperwork.

I know this has nothing to do with the game but I saw keelhaul and ran with it. I'll go back to reading Moody Dick, a 21st century tale of

7 I have a very good friend who has been in the Navy for years. I'd tell him the same thing. Sorry. :-)

Hey, Bob, I now have not one, but two NFL Network channels on my TV. I'd let you borrow one if I could.

If it weren't for conference contractual agreements (WAC and C-USA), I think Navy would draw real well out here for the Hawai'i Bowl. Granted the Poinsettia Bowl is in another big Navy town, but SD has nuthin' on Hawai'i in its regard for the military.

My prediction is looking better now. If Johnson was healthy, Utah could have really made some noise this season.
