Sweeney suggests Royals were chemically enhanced
2006-01-14 10:04
by Bob Timmermann

But it was the 1999 Royals.

That Royals squad had a lot of famous names on it: Johnny Damon, Carlos Beltran, Scott Leius, Sal Fasano, Jeff King. But the team finished 64-97, 11 games worse than their Pythagorean projection.

Perhaps having a closer with a 6.84 ERA was just one of the problems.

Another question is: why would Sweeney bring up something that happened over 6 years ago?

Oh c'mon, nice cheap shot on Jeff Montgomery there, he did finish with more saves than the "revolutionary" Bruce Sutter, one of the best closers ever by all sorts of non-statistical evidence.

Maybe Sweeney is bringing this up now because somebody finally noticed he was teammates with Jeremy Giambi...

I could have given a cheap shot to Felix Martinez, one of baseball's most beloved players.
