by Bob Timmermann

The special Negro Leagues committee added 17 members to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Seven Negro League players

  • Ray Brown
  • Willard Brown
  • Andy Cooper
  • Biz Mackey
  • Mule Suttles
  • Cristobal Torriente
  • Jud Wilson

Five players from the era before the Negro Leagues

  • Frank Grant
  • Pete Hill
  • José Méndez
  • Louis Santop
  • Ben Taylor

Four Negro League executives

  • Effa Manley, the first woman inducted into the Hall of Fame
  • Alex Pompez
  • Cum Posey
  • J.L. Wilkinson

One pre-Negro League executive

  • Sol White

Sentimental favorties (because they are still alive) Buck O'Neil and Minnie Miñoso, didn't make the cut.

Speaking of which, did anybody see the exhibition ESPNClassic showed yesterday afternoon from Birmingham? George Scott was coaching one of the teams, and I swear, he looked like a block of granite with a head. I've never seen an ex-baseball player who's that fat.
