The Pearlman code
2006-03-30 15:42
by Bob Timmermann

Jeff Pearlman writes in Slate.com about the code among players where you don't name names, especially when it comes to steroids.

Note to self: never invite both Pearlman and Jay Canizaro to a dinner party at my place.

Jeff Pearlman, the guy who wrote this piece for SI?

(Hat tip to mccoveychronicles.com)

In short, he absolutely rips guys for politely refusing to talk to him before a practice.

The man wrote a book where the major revelation is that someone told him that Bonds once told Griffey he took steroids... and then he got scooped by Fainaru-Wada and Williams, who put together a much more thorough and damning accusation against Bonds. Now, it appears Pearlman's on a desperate publicity blitz to get his book into the public consciousness. Also, I'm very bothered by the unsupported blanket assertion that Griffey is clean, when so much circumstantial evidence gathered over the years indicates that anabolic steroid use is widespread enough to make every MLB player a suspect.

There are few writers for whom I have less respect than Jeff Pearlman, and yes, I did just put that in print.
