The NHL has asked for permission to stage a game between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders at Yankee Stadium.

The game would take place on January 1, 2007 if logistical hurdles (such as figuring out how to make a viable ice surface) can be overcome.

The backup plan is the skating rink at Rockefeller Center.

Would the Today show crew call the action from there?

I think Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira might bring a different take to such a game.

Perhaps, but both Lauer and Vieira are New Englanders, so they might at least have a passing familiarity with the game. (And both used to work for the same station here in Providence. Rhode Island, cradle of Today Show hosts.)

I barely wanted to do an MLB draft thread, but I figured others wanted it.

And I'm all about listening to my readers.

Unless I think their suggestions are without merit. Then I dismiss them out of hand.

The most salient point about the NBA draft is that the NBA sucks. Thus, no draft thread.
