Just what the Phillies need

Although he won't be eligible for postseason play since he joined the team after September 1, the Phillies acquired Randall Simon from Texas in exchange for cash.

It's very important that the Phillies find a way to get production out of the first base position. Ryan Howard has been nothing but a disappointment at bat this season.

If Randall Simon is playing a game at first base, I believe that Charlie Manuel would be using Plan 75! for his lineup.

Not that I disagree with what you are saying but... you can force some foolish manager's hands with an extra lefty at bat in September when the rosters expand.

and not only that... at least they didn't give up a player that might help them in the future.

Maybe the Phillies just want a guy who will go up and put the ball in play.

Of course, the ball doesn't go far when Simon hits it.

The Phillies don't play the Brewers anymore this year, so the sausages are safe...This year.

The Phillies and Brewers could meet in a possible one-game playoff for the wild card.

Then I would have to dust off my pile of Phillies-Brewers trivia.

Fortunately, the Phillies don't go to Washington again.

Besides, I hear that the racing presidents get Secret Service protection.

I think the Phils are here at the end of the month, actually.

Last night's race went off with just three Presidents -- Teddy was MIA. Then he showed up in the next inning, refused to leave the field, and security and had to be hauled away.

He still hasn't won yet. I'm betting on the last day of the season.

Ahh, indeed the Phils do come to RFK once more on Tuesday-Thursday of the last week of the season.

The Philllies play two of their last three series against the Marlins. I can't imagine that they feel good about that.

And they have a third series against FL this month as well. 10 games total.
