Less purple in the NL West
2006-09-02 13:28
by Bob Timmermann

The Arizona Diamondbacks are planning on changing their color scheme in 2007.

Presently, they are turquoise, copper, black, and purple. In 2007, they plan to change to red, sand, and black. They key is getting rid of the purple.

When the team began play, the club received feedback from various media outlets that the color purple is a difficult one to match up when it comes to graphics, logos and photos with the purple coming out looking either blue or black. Purple also was a challenging color to match up from a merchandising standpoint.

The logos are supposed to be changed a bit also. No word yet on whether or not Luis Gonzalez will still be around in 2007.

So the Royals drop black (save a lone expansion jersey) this year, the Reds will drop the black next year, and the Diamondbacks, who have the worst (and most) uniforms in baseball (in the most colors as well) are scaling back to something that sounds like it will look a lot like what the Astros wear? The uni gods are smiling on us. Now if they'll just smite the Mets . . .

Don't smite the Mets. I have 54 of their different ensembles with only 33 left to go!

A person needs a challenge to strive for.

Purple is not the color of a champion.

Purple is not the color of a champion.

Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Jerry West, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and a few others don't quite agree.

Red, sand, and black should be better. Of course they could narrow it down to two colors. You know, like a real baseball team.
