Alternate jerseys are the Devil's wardrobe.

Home whites, road grays. That's it. This is not Nam, Smokey, there are rules!

Sometimes it pays to be color-blind.

Coming this summer to a ballpark near you ...

"Pirates of the Carribean ... Dead Man's Wardrobe"

Does the FCC consider this obscene ... it qualifies as a "wardrobe malfunction".

Still not as bad as this:

The red is bad enough (great, that's three times in the division that have that now), it's the cut-off sleeves that push it beyond the pale. Oy!

A more subtle offense are the odd red "ear panels" on their batting practice cap seen here:

LaRoche definitely is happy with how that trade went.

5 I think the Pirates alt is worse, actually. That SBXLI jersey isn't intended to be worn on the field and just looks like a modern soccer jersey. Don't get me wrong, it's bad, but not Pirates Alternate Jersey bad.

That jersey is a red nightmare, and LaRoche looks about as happy as a guy taking his dad's boss's ugly daughter to the prom.

I assume the third jersey will be worn on Sundays.

So the unlucky opponents will be:
San Francisco
Cincinnati (twice)
Atlanta
Arizona (which is switching to red)
Dodgers
White Sox
Washington
Cubs (twice)
Houston
Philadelphia
St. Louis

That just makes me sad. It's one thing for the Diamondbacks or Devil Rays to have hideous uniforms with random colors, but the Pirates have a proud history that ought to be respected. Even the 70's uniforms (which may not have been everyone's cup of tea) still stuck to the black and gold color scheme.

i generally prefer alternates, but that thing is absolutely hideous. the tragedy is that the pirates' normal uniform is a thing of beauty; one of the best uniforms in baseball. there's no need to mess with it.
