Angels extend Shields
2007-03-29 23:01
by Bob Timmermann
Los Angeles Angels reliever Scot Shields received a three-year, $14 million contract extension Thursday. Shields has the first and second most appearances in a season by an Angels pitcher, pitching in 78 games in 2005 and 74 in 2006. Shields is three short of the Angels record for relief wins with 31. Dave LaRoche holds that record.
Odd tidbit in the article, "The club also announced Thursday that Troy Percival, the Angels' career saves leader, will sign a minor league contract before Monday's season opener against Texas and immediately retire -- as a member of the Angels." If Brian Downing is still sulking then maybe he would feel better doing the same thing.
