A place where a man can slow down to a walk and live his life full measure, but he has to keep his watch on Pacific Time. And the mathematically eliminated are dispatched with a metaphor.

The Angels finally cash in dividend from 1999 trade*
2007-05-28 19:32
by Bob Timmermann

Back on July 29, 1999, the Anaheim Angels traded Randy Velarde and Omar Olivares to Oakland and received Jeff DaVanon, Elvin Nina, and Nathan Haynes.

Today, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sent outfielder Tommy Murphy back to AAA Salt Lake City and called up 27-year old outfielder Nathan Haynes.

Haynes has been well-travelled as you can see here. Haynes was batting .391 at Salt Lake City this year with a 1.052 OPS.

Haynes singled in his first major league at bat against Seattle's Jon Huber and would score a run in the Angels 12-5 loss to the Mariners.

He played a few games in the Giants' system in '04-'05 and in the independent Northern League in 2006. So he was most recently aqcuired by the Angels as a minor-league free agent and not via trade.

Still, the headline and story are funny.

The Angels never leave a career minor leaguer behind! They had to go back and get him.

2 He's 5'9" and 170 pounds! Watch your back, Eckstein, there's a new scraptastic writers' darling in the Major Leagues!

His MLB.com bio says he's up to 180 now.

5 Well, baseball-reference.com lists Chuck Knoblauch at 5'9", 181, which is a complete fantasy.

I like Haynes. Even better than F of the L.
