TBS names announcing crews for Division Series
2007-09-28 18:06
by Bob Timmermann

TBS today announced its four sets of announcing duos for the Division Series:

  1. Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn, They are the first string. Gwynn is good. Caray is not.
  2. Dick Stockton and Bob Brenly. With my luck I'll be stuck watching these guys, who are awful
  3. Ted Robinson and Steve Stone. With my luck I'll miss these guys, who know stuff
  4. Don Orsillo and Joe Simpson. Will Orsillo get the Red Sox Division Series? Will Simpson sound like he's awake?

If a game on TBS goes long and cuts into time for the next game, TNT will show the other game. The "other" game will depend upon where you are for its "otherness."

For the love of all that is holy, how can we be stuck with TV and mlb executives who can't figure out a better solution than this:

If a game on TBS goes long and cuts into time for the next game, TNT will show the other game.

Ridiculous.

Boy that's strange. Where'd my other comment go?

It said something like -- "they're gonna cut away from extra inning playoff games?!?!!"

I believe TBS will cut away from a game that is going long depending upon if the game that is about to start involves your local team.

I'm open to suggestions.

Does that mean that almost the entire playoffs are only on cable or sat.? Also, no HD for all but the World Series? I'm confused.

Some cable systems are adding TBS HD.

Mine is not.

Fox will have the World Series.

TBS will show the NLCS. Fox will show the ALCS.

They will switch next year.

So all I need to do know is figure out what channel TBS and TNT are on my cable system . . . and then remember what those numbers are.

TBS is 63 for me and TNT is 40. But TNT is in HD, not TBS. So I can also look in on 415.

TBS is 551 out here; darned if I know what TNT is.

I find it nearly unconscionable that MLB would ignore people who can't afford cable.

14 Unfortunately, if seems like a bone-head move by the MLB, but in fact is probably a testament to the fact that networks are not willing to supersede their valuable prime-time lineup with béisbol.

9 I'm surprised Fox is alternating, given that the Yanks and Red Sox are in the AL.

Back in the mid-seventies Stockton was doing Red Sox games with Hawk Harrelson. Grim times. And I still can't believe the Sox sent Sean McDonough packing for Orsillo.
