Opening Day in Japan, but in Japanese
2008-03-20 22:30
Japan's Pacific League started its regular season Thursday with three games. Defending PL champ Nippon Ham got a 1-0 shutout from ace Yu Darvish to beat the Chiba Lotte Marines in Sapporo. Darvish gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out 10. The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks got a 3-run pinch homer in the ninth from Hiroshi Shibahara to beat the Rakuten Golden Eagles 4-3. The Orix Buffaloes edged the Saitama Seibu Lions 2-1. Chiba manager Bobby Valentine is not happy that there are MLB games competing with NPB regular season games.
