The green-clad men from Boston will attempt to take a 3-1 lead on the gold-clad men from Los Angeles with the chance of making a Father's Day depressing in Southern California.
But the gold-clad men from Los Angeles will still have the edge of having nearly 20,000 people who skipped out of work early to go the game to cheer them on.
Today's questions:
Which corporate sponsor do you use more often: TD Banknorth or Staples? And what's the deal with a Canadian company sponsoring a U.S. bank and sports arena? Do people who work for TD Banknorth get their office supplies from Staples? Would Staples be in a better financial position if they still employed Dwight Schrute?
I don't think there are too many 9-to-5ers among the Laker playoff crowd. They might have shut down a few film shoots or pitch meetings early for people to get to Staples.
I wish we wouldn't even have to talk about the officiating as much as we are, but I understand why we are. Still, I hope tonight's game is all about the players and not about the officials in any way.
As unrealistic as it sounds this has all the makings of a blowout game. Should it be? No. But there's a blowout due sometime and that sometime is now ...
And, usually accompanied by her patented glare, for several different unfortunate Lady Vols showing less than enthusiastic defense--
"Is it that you can't play defense, or you just don't want to play defense?"
Yeah, I know. The women's college game is worlds different from the NBA and all that. But the fundamental things she's talking about don't really change. Eight national titles give her the cred to be taken seriously--or at least heard.
I'm mentioning these things because, even tho I don't follow the NBA closely these days, I heard analysts in Game 1 say the Lakers are not a good rebounding team.
And small sample size, but from what I've seen of the Lakers there usually are some long stretches when they don't seem to be too interested in playing defense.
Not predicting they will lose this game or the series, but based on what's happened so far, I wouldn't be surprised.
The second is the correct word (they have people who decide this sort of stuff), as it were, though the first is used mostly. Kind of like futbol, where the correct word is balonpie. (it has an accent, forgive me)
Anyway, beisbal, of course is the translation for baseball, but its phonetic like futbol. I don't know if a correct word exists. If it does it might be a translation involving a stick and a ball.
All in all, given that the Lakers are without Bynum, I'm happy that the Lakers got this far. If they can at least prevent a clinching game on their home floor, I'll be satisfied at this point.
I actually hope boston beats us here, so that garbage back in boston doesn't see them until the parade..this is a shameful loss, a shameful shameful moment for our city...paul pierce has officially embarrassed the city of inglewood, and the city of los angeles
My internet connection went offline for awhile last night so I couldn't come back here and it's probably just as well -- I would've probably typed some regrettable things here, mostly about the Lakers' choke job.
I figured it wasn't over even when it was 24 because in basketball with that much time anything can happen. But it's still pretty shameful.
Btw, this isn't the reason the Lakers lost but that one call against Kobe late in the game was atrocious, the one where I think it was Posey sold it with an Oscar-winning performance after he himself had shoved his elbow into Kobe. That stuff went on for both sides, but for the refs to buy it and call it right then sure didn't help.
Okay, whining over.

Lakers fans usually boo Javie during intros. Probably not a good idea tonight.

Since the thread appears before the game starts, yes, it's a pre-game chat thread as well.
It's very versatile.

In hindsight, I guess those numbers refer to seeding.

{ducks, retreats to recliner to watch game}
Why is Maza playing point guard!?
Anyway... I predicted both teams would play less sloppy today, and I stand by that.
She is a chicken counter, though.
Go figure.
Yes, Jack Kent Cooke was Canadian, although I think he became a naturalized U.S. citizen before he died.
Baloncesto?
I really love the word "nonetheless".
