One of my biggest beefs with Cleveland was getting stranded at the airport for 45 minutes without any explanation when the Cleveland train system mysteriously stopped.
So I did what normally do in this situation: write a self-righteous complaining e-mail to the customer service department. It was really just to vent.
But yesterday what did I get? An apology:
Dear Mr. Timmermann:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the service on the 66X line, the
service delayed was due in part to a Mechanical defect and scheduling.
Please accept my apology for the inconvenience that you experienced. RTA
strives to provide dependable and reliable service to our customers;
unfortunately, sometimes we come up short of meeting our goals.
Thank you again for your patronage. I hope that you will give us
another chance to meet your transportation needs.
Cleveland ended its 10-game losing streak yesterday with a 13-2 win over Tampa Bay.
I now consider the matter closed. I shall complain about Cleveland no more forever.
"We were sorry you waited for the train for an hour. That was because the train only comes every hour, you moron!
"Sincerely, RTA."
That crowd included a few kids of 16 or so, with blotchy faces and goofy grins. After a little while, one of them, sitting directly behind me, put his head down and started puking. Copiously.
I would gladly have waited 45 minutes to avoid that.
The train was supposed to come every 15 minutes. There was an electronic board that showed the time when each train would come. It was sad watching those times pass by.
Women and children are now able to safely walk the streets again (and not just because the trains are delayed).
There's the power of the apology and also the desire for me to get a new act.
Our Nation's Capital is on deck.
Bob's participation in the Griddle Witness Protection Program only allows him to travel to SABR Convention sites.
It is possible that I can't beat him because he is better than me at that game, however.
Not that I can beat Diane.

I will be in Michigan at the end of August.
