Yost as in toast
2008-09-15 12:03
by Bob Timmermann

The Milwaukee Brewers have fired manager Ned Yost with just 12 games left in the regular season and the team tied for the wild card spot.

Dale Sveum will be the interim manager.

Bench coach Ted Simmons was also reassigned to a different position.

For a parallel, in 2000, the New Jersey Devils fired coach Robbie Ftorek with eight games left in the regular season and replaced him Larry Robinson. The Devils went on to win the Stanley Cup.

I was just about to post this, but I refreshed to make sure the Griddle had not posted it, but Bob was all over it.

I seem to remember getting an inordinate amount of Dale Sveum cards in packs of 1987 Topps.

I believe the V has a "W" sound and the "eu" has a long A sound.

What on earth -- firing a manager with 12 games left? That must do wonders for a team's coherence and chemistry. I guess they knew they were gonna fire him and that the writing was on the wall for the team this season the way they're going, so why not just rip that band-aid off. Still...

Dale Swaim!

Don't look now, but Ted Lilly also has an interesting game going against the Astros!

Well then, let me state that it now has been at least 1 and 2/3 games since the Astros have had a hit.

The Brewers must like your last sentence.
