If they make it to the world series would they be the lowest salaried team to make in the last 15 years? With the postseason TV money they will be rolling in the green.
I dreamed of the day the Dodger Rays would knock off the Beasts of the East but I figured it would be 2010 not 2008.
1 Actually, I don't think the team makes anymore money from tv revenues, all that is part of the contracts that MLB has with their partners and is divided up amongst all the teams.
Now, they do make money from ticket sales, and concessions, etc., though again, more of the ticket sales moneys goes to a general fund for the players and pension.
The Rays listed payroll at $43M is the lowest but the Marlins payroll in 2003 was only a little higher at $45M.
It is also probable that the Marlins will make more of a profit this year since their payroll is almost half of the Rays, with revenue sharing and their share of TV and advanced media money, once again, only the South Florida fans are the losers.
