You better not call the NL MVP AL
2008-11-17 11:00
by Bob Timmermann

But Paul Simon can. Albert Pujols of the Cardinals won his second NL MVP award, beating out Ryan Howard by 61 points in the voting and earning 18 of 32 first place votes. Howard received 12 and teammate Brad Lidge got the other two.

Pujols was the only player to appear on all 32 ballots.

Manny 4th, CC 6th. Not bad for midseason pickups.

Aramis just beats Hanley for the title of most valuable Ramirez.

Aramis: 66 pts (10th)
Hanley: 55 pts (11th)

Besides Manny of course. I should think before I hit submit.

BTW - I know that "You Can Call Me Al" is not a classic Simon song but it is one of my favorites and the video, though simple, was a reason it remains a favorite.

Which writer left Ryan Howard off his ballot? I want to buy that person a beer.

Jeez, I would think at the very least it merits the moniker of "minor classic." And yes, the video is loads of fun.

Oh, and: Stephen Drew? Really?

As for the missing votes, it looks some voters don't put 10 names on the ballot. By my count, once you get to 5th place, some voters just stopped listing people.

Not bad for a guy that was said to need surgery before the season.

Bob, I count 32 total votes for each spot, 1st through 10th.

7 , while you're there, can the two million of us who attended a certain parade last month throw beers at said writer?
