Highly coveted Japanese pitching star Yu Darvish re-signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters for a reported 270 million yen (about $2.8 million) for one year. Darvish went 16-4 with a 1.88 ERA and 208 Ks for the Fighters, who finished in third place.
''The numbers I put up don't look bad, but the team did not win
the championship and I was unable to win any major individual
pitching titles. It wasn't a satisfactory season,'' Darvish said.
Darvish has said recently what he said at the end of last year, that he is not willing to go over to the majors, as he is looking to win 200 games in Japan. How much of this is real and how much is to appease fans and/or the management is of course uncertain.
He is only in his fourth year, so unless he gets posted which is very unlikely, he needs five more years to get an oversees free agent status.
He is certainly special, but in five years who knows what will happen.
