Which sporting event to watch?

U.S vs Finland in Olympic curling? I know I never want to miss a chance to see Markku Uusipaavalniemi in action.

Or

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show from Madison Square Garden.

Strangely, one of these two events is televised live on the West Coast. And it's not the event with furry creatures involved.

And for your enjoyment, Ken has forwarded me the song "Curl" picked up via Deadspin.

I watched about thrity minutes of curling last night (early this morning). The team competing against the Americans (some Scandinavian country; they run together in my tiny little brain) had a player with bad knees, sufferred, I took it, from a curling related injury. Which blew my mind.

The minor Olympic sports are a lot more fun, for me. Ice skating and Track and Field are boring, but I could watch a couple hours of fencing or curling. More, if there was beer.

The U.S. was taking on Norway in both men's and women's. The men cruised 11-5, but the women lost 11-6.

My goal not to watch one second of the Winter Olympics was ruined when I accidently walked in on someone watching the downhill event last night.

3 - They're supposed to hang a ski pole on the door knob so that doesn't happen.

Funny you should mention it, Bob, as last night I was switching between watching Apollo Ono wipe out and the Flying Tomato win the gold in snowboarding (if we have this, why not skateboarding in the summer games?) and some fierce canine agility action on Animal Planet. To make it even more bizzare, one of the dog handlers competing in the agility championships was two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Luganis.

Dog agility is pretty kick ass, I must say. And I dig the Winter Olympics too. This is much better than the typical February sports fair, that's for sure.

Of course in the WKC, the dog's agility isn't being tested. The dog's are being graded on their appearance and how well they match the AKC standard.

For me, the event lost its allure when Joe Garagiola was dropped as one of the announcers.

Does anyone remember what breed of dog Ken Caminiti owned that once won best in its breed?

I'm the wrong guy for this thread. My fiancee (who, it must be said, is a veterinarian) actually attended a day of WKC a year or two ago and my step-sister and her husband are amateur curlers.

As for Garagiola, I don't know which is better, Fred Willard's take-off on Garagiola in "Best In Show" or the fact that what Willard was doing wasn't really that far from Garagiola's actual announcing style.

Is there such a thing as pro curling?

What!? The Olympics started already? I tried tuning in this weekend, but I couldn't find the station that was broadcasting them. I probably enjoy watching the speedskating the most, especially the sprint events. Everytime I watch this event, I keep saying to myself this doesn't really seem like a race more than jockeying for the lead and then trying not to get tripped. The Summer Olympic equivalent would be the 100 meter dash ran with all racers on the same balance beam. Good luck trying to pass someone. vr, Xei

That's just short track speed skating, which seems almost, but not quite, unlike a real sport.

The Westminster Kennel Club on USA is having Debbye Turner, a former Miss America, hosting this year. She's a veterinarian now.
