The second coming of Darren Dreifort?

A.J. Burnett of Toronto left his spring training start today in Dunedin, Florida after one pitch with an elbow injury.

But it's not like Burnett has a history of injuries does he?

Technically, he came out after one pitch in the second inning, he'd already finished the first.

The Toronto Star is reporting:
"He kept saying he was sore, he was sore,'' Jays catcher Bengie Molina said in the team's clubhouse after coming out of the game in the middle innings. "He couldn't do another pitch. He couldn't handle it.''

"Molina wasn't certain whether or not the soreness was in Burnett's elbow, which he had "Tommy John'' surgery on three years ago. "They kept telling him 'Don't point, don't point','' he added. "So, I have no idea.''

Molina said he'd called for a fastball on Burnett's final pitch but that the pitcher seemed to hestiate at the last second as if he'd decided to throw a change-up instead.

As a Jays fan, I feel ill. Positively ill. Dreifort? You had to invoke the spirit of Darren Dreifort? Isn't that a bit cruel?

I think one word pretty much sums up my reaction to this news: Schadenfreude.

Faster than you can say "Chan Ho Park" or "insurance claim", Jays GM JP Ricciardi has said that the pain was caused by "scar tissue breaking up", and that AJ might be back within 5 days:
