David Ortiz signed a four-year contract extension with the Red Sox with a club option for 2011. AP reports the extension to be worth $52 million.

Also, the Red Sox have placed outfielder Coco Crisp on the disabled list with a nondisplaced fracture of his left index finger. Dustan Mohr had his contract purchased from Pawtucket.

In other Sox related news, Bronson Arroyo hit his second home run of the year today, giving him two more homers than the man he was traded for, Wily Mo Pena.

My reaction to both bits of news:

GROAN.

I love Ortiz as much as the next Red Sox fan, but when I think of him four years in the future I just get images of Mo Vaughn dancing in my head.

Images of Mo Vaughn dancing in your head must be migraine-like pain.
