by Bob Timmermann

Did you know there is now a College Baseball Hall of Fame?

And do you know where it is?

It's in the city you instantly associate with college baseball: Lubbock, Texas!

The initial class of 10 was named today:

  • Bobby Winkles, Arizona State coach
  • Skip Bertman, LSU coach
  • Ron Fraser, Miami coach
  • Cliff Gustafson, Texas coach
  • Rod Dedeaux, USC coach
  • Bob Horner, Arizona State
  • Robin Ventura, Oklahoma State
  • Dave Winfield, Minnesota
  • Will Clark, Mississippi State
  • Brooks Kieschnick, Texas

Good to see Will the Thrill in there.

It would have been nice to see a list of the vote counts, but apparently that wasn't released. I say that because Derek Tatsuno of UH was nominated. He was the first 20-game winner in NCAA history and compiled a 40-3 (or something close to that) record over three seasons at the U.

Since they've started this so late, this institution is assured a steady supply of candidates to induct each year.

At least Clark gets to be in one Hall of Fame. And Kieschnick is now in a Hall other than some theoretical Hall of Weird.
