Wilbon on Bonds

by Bob Timmermann

Michael Wilbon, when not engaged in shouting matches with Tony Kornheiser on ESPN, can still crank out a good column for the Washington Post.

Earlier in the week, Bryan Burwell also wrote about Bonds and the "race card" in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The article didnt' do anything for me. It kinda ended mid-thought.

To clarify, I meant the Wilbon article. The Burwell article actually made a point.

I have fond memories of reading Wilbon and Kornheiser columns in the Post, in my undergrad days. Now when I see them on TV, I think, WTF? I actually these guys were insightful?

Loud? Always. Funny? Sometimes. Insightful? Never.

I'm detecting that the Wilbon column wasn't a big hit.....

It's not that I thought Wilbon's column was bad, but that it seems like he started a column similar to Burwell's, then lost his train of thought midway through, and took a left turn to talk about Ruth. Interesting stuff (I'd never heard any of that before), but I not sure it had anything to do with what his original point seemed to be.
