Federal prosecutors were a sizzling 25 out of 34 in guilty verdicts in the trials of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling this morning in Houston.

Lay was found guilty 9 out of 9 times to win Guilty White Collar Criminal of the Week honors.

Ah, schadenfreude, my old friend. How good to see you again.

It's a schadenfreude vs hubris cage match to choose the best metaphor from a foreign language!

Consider me a vote for hubris.

To me, this isn't shadenfreude. Lay and Skilling aren't experiencing bad fortune -- they broke the law and are being punished for it. One can take pleasure without handwringing -- we're seeing the system work as these guys get punished.

... not that this helps any former Enron employees (or investors) recoup their huge financial losses ... :-(

It's a smorgasbord of metaphors!

Lay's and Skilling's biggest mistakes, clearly, were not getting elected to Congress. They could have had diplomatic immunity from their own country, evidently. So, add that to the list of their failed forecasts. I haven't read through the reports yet, is hanging a possible sentence?
