All or nothing pays off for the Braves at Wrigley
2006-05-28 15:08
by Bob Timmermann

In a 13-12 win over the Cubs at Wrigley today, the Atlanta Braves:

  • hit eight home runs, tying a franchise record (August 30, 1953, game 1 vs the Pirates)
  • struck out 18 times
  • struck out only 2 Cubs batters themselves
  • saw relief pitcher Oscar Villareal run his record to 7-0
  • blew a 12-8 lead in the ninth thanks in part to a Neifi Perez triple that was nearly a home run
  • scored the winning run when Aramis Ramirez had a pop up from Ryan Langerhans bounce off his head for a two-base error and then score on a bloop single by Marcus Giles
  • used 19 players (all but Matt Diaz, reliever Mike Remlinger, and the other four starting pitchers)

I think this loss will really haunt the Cubs, because Womack and Perez had nice days while Walker and Ramirez look like goats. Today's events just bought Niefimack hundreds of more at bats.
