Can anybody try to quantify the difference he'll make for the 'Stros at this point? They are clinging to a winning record, 6.5 games back of St. Louis, and 3.5 games back of the Wild Card (with Los Angeles, Cinci, Philly, Atlanta, San Diego, and Colorado ahead of them and San Fran and Milwaukee nipping at their heels).
3.5 GB isn't a lot on May 31, but with 9 teams in the mix for the wild card, can Clemens make the difference over a half-season?
Perhaps the Astros are not thinking about how many wins Clemens adds to the ledger, but how many more butts Clemens puts in the seats? Maybe even on the nights he doesn't pitch, just knowing that he's back will create 'buzz' and lead to more tickets sold?
I also think its great that he gets to play with his eldest son, even if it is an A-ball game, and not in the majors.
1 3/5 of the Astros current rotation has less than 2 years experience in the bigs. As much as I love Wandy (man has he matured in the past year) and Buchholz (I'll call him mature when he starts shaving), I think three rooks or near-rooks in your rotation is playing with fire.
2 Maybe they're thinking he'll be better than Fernando Nieve?
4 Too true. To use the phrase from an old Astros fan site, the AIS (Asses In Seats) factor is high when Roger pitches.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the contract included some sort of provision about Koby getting a September callup.
