WC 2006 Match Chat: Group A finale 7 am, PT

Germany vs. Ecuador in Berlin

or, for our compulsive gamblers Costa Rica vs. Poland in Hanover

The winner of the match in Munich wins Group A. The winner of the match in Hanover gets the number of rocks thrown at the team plane cut by 50%!

Little known historical fact: Ecuador declared war on Germany on February 2, 1945. It was the thought that counted.

Is it my imagination or are there a disproportionate number of very early goals in this World Cup?

I thonking about Travis Hafner recently.

Ecuador is starting a guy named "Guagua", which among Spanish speakers in the Caribbean means "bus."

And for the GA crowd, Costa Rica takes a 1-0 lead over Poland.

And the Poles tie thanks to a bad non-call.

I'm thinking Poland should just let Costa Rica win. Polish fans probably don't expect much out of a trip to Germany (these trips have never gone well) and everyone knows how rabid South (or Central, I guess) American fans can be.

Ecuador's heretofore well-organized defense is not today.

I know Drew Carey has some World Cup soccer show, but how the heck did Ryan Stiles manage to get the job as the ref for the Germany-Ecuador match?

Five goals for Poles today.

Three of them are by guys on the German team.

10 So if Podolski would've scored instead of Neuville against Poland, which team would've won?

So the Germans do go with the long "oooooooooo"
for players with that sound in their name!

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuth!

Yeah, the "u" sound in german is a very low sound, just like the "oo" in a word like tooth.

It's killing me to hear the announcers calling him Oliver 'New'ville every time. The German "eu" isn't at all difficult to pronounce.

But it seems that John Harkes likes to show off the fact that he knows some German.

Costa Rica will be dueling with Serbia et. al for last place.

The Ticos finish 0-3 and -5 in goals.

The Serbs are 0-2 and -7 now.

Whoops, -6 for the Ticos.
