So that's how it's described now?

From the Washington Post's notebook about the Washington Nationals.

Another move is pending Tuesday, when lefty Mike O'Connor is scheduled to be recalled to start against Florida. Utility player Damian Jackson, who has spasms in his esophagus, is expected to be placed on the disabled list to make room, club officials said Monday night.

Emphasis is mine. Doesn't that just mean Jackson is vomiting or has heartburn?

Acid reflux is the "in" thing, I'm told.

I believe the medical term is "involuntary peristalsis." ;-)

Is he striking out with men on base a lot? Could be he's choking?

Hey, I saw Deep Throat. I know what those spasms in the espohagus really are.

What I clearly DON'T know, however, is how to spell esopahgus.

I thought the official "sports" term was "Reversal of Fortune." Gotta stop watching competitive eating in HD....

OK, I've turned the definitive medical source: Google.

What Jackson has is likely related to GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux disorder). Not only is stomach acid coming back his esophagus, but there is a spasm at the same time. This tends to feel like a heart attack because it's a very sharp chest pain.

8 - yes, exactly. I had this a couple years ago in the middle of the night and believe me, it scared the holy bejeezus out of me. I ended up hospitalized for a day and a half.

Acid reflux .... that's what Ashlee Simpson's dad claimed his little notalent I mean girl was suffering from during that "backing vocal" fiasco on SNL a year ago.
