The Red Sox have defeated the Royals the last two days at Fenway Park by scores of 1-0.

According to the AP story about the game, the last time the Red Sox won consecutive 1-0 games at Fenway was on June 22 and 23, 1916. Babe Ruth beat the Yankees on the 22nd and Ernie Shore beat the Athletics on the 23rd.

I don't have any database query way to look this up, but just eyeballing the Red Sox results on baseballreference.com, it hasn't happened in the last decade at least.

It seems that the Marlins were so impressed with Boston's 1-0 wins that they won 1-0 themselves, a 2 hitter against the Nats. Any idea what the modern era record for most 1-0 wins in a single "complete" day is? I'm sure it's more than two, but we have plenty of games left.

I would think a day in the 1960s or in the Deadball Era probably had four or five 1-0 games.

That's what I figured, but I'd be curious how often they occurred more than once in a day during the steroid era or whatever you want to call it.

I will leave that for others to figure out. I'm thinking it's a topic for Mike's Baseball Rants.

Bob -- The Post has a box today saying 1916 was the last time the Sox won two straight 1-0 games at Fenway.
